  1. Hi,

I have big problem with TMPGenc, to convert from XviD to Pal VCD/SVCD

    VERY IMPORATNT:
"I DON'T HAVE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM WITH CANOPUS AND CCE"

I aslo saw a lot of post regarding this problem, I also saw already (and tried) all VFAPI configuration found on this beautiful site, th eproblem still go on...

    I have Windows XP SP1 + 512 mem + AMD 700 + ati radeon 7500 (128 mega memory)

During the last days I tried several times and several solutions but
    unfortunately I haven't find a way.

From XviD (XviD only) the result is "flicked, Not fluid everytime camera change scene" and this is for all files converted in SVCD and VCD.

Considering that I tried all solution possible the result is:

    XviD > PAL Standard (480 x 576, 25.000 framrate) SVCD/VCD = FLICKED
    XviD > PAL Standard (480 x 576, 23.976 framrate) SVCD/VCD = BETTER but flicked too.
    XviD > NTSC Standard (480 x 480, 23.976 framrate) SVCD/VCD = OK but image is cropped at N-S-W-E

with other resolution situation don't change.

The problem is with PC an with my Home DVD player Daytek DVD 707
(100% compatible with VCD/SVCD and many Xvcd Xsvcd)

I tried many VFAPI Plug in configurations. TMPGenc accepted only some of that but the result was the same. I'm still thinking that the problem is this, VFAPI plug in wrong.

    My installed Codec:

    divx 3.11 alpha
    divX 5.0.5
    XviD nic's encoder/decoder, latest one
    ogg codec
    ac3 0,68
    fraunhofen mp3
Windows media player 9.0 + codec
ffdshow filter (XviD codec not setted. To show xvid movie i use codec)
    virtual dub 1151
    nandub 1

some other utility (subtitles, player ecc)

    Coul some help me?????

    ciao

What framerate is your source XviD file? The jerk is probably due to a bad conversion from NTSC to PAL. This is especially true if your source file FPS is 29.97, and not FILM (23.976). Also, what is your source file from (i.e. DVD, Broadcast capture, CAM, etc..)

  3. thank's Dj Rumpy

source is XviD 23.976 NTSC dvd - rip

here in Italy all the downloaded Divx and XviD are aparently originally in NTSC, DVD was releases before in USA. I normally download DVD rip in english language. I will change audio as soon as is available (cam audio) on the cinema.

Latest example in Star Trek Nemesis, already released in USA on DVD and just last friday here at the cinema.

Opening the AVI with AVI2SVCD > CCE (PAL project) I can "mark" the cell "NTSC to PAL". Only if the source is NTSC this happens.

Did you think can resolve the trouble if the problem is the "wrong" conversion from NTSC to PAL during conversion from XviD to SVCD????

Did you know some streets to bypass it?? or a right way to go on???

    P.S.

remember that with CCE and Canopus the problem doesen't exist (Not with that movie)

    thank's a lot

    Ciao

I find it hard to believe that the DVD2SVCD guys got the conversion options wrong, although I suppose it's possible. I don't use that software. If it was me, I'd just use AVISynth to convert the video. It needs to be sped up by 1 frame per second. Some conversion methods attempt to add an additional frame per second rather than speeding it up, which causes a hicup. If you install AVISynth version 2.08, and use the following script, it will convert your video to PAL properly. Open notepad, and type in the following script (or copy and paste it):

    AVISource("c:\your folder\your AVI name.avi")
    ResampleAudio(44100)
    AssumeFPS(25,True)
    BilinearResize(480,576)

Save the file with a .AVS extension (example: nemesis.AVS )

Drop this file onto your encoder. The audio should be converted in BeSweet, using the BeSweet GUI, and the FILM to PAL option.

Although the above script will give you sync'd audio, it will sound slightly 'fast'. Converting your audio in BeSweet avoids this speedup. Simply use the BeSweet Audio, rather than the output AVISynth gives you. You can extract the audio from your DivX using VirtualDub. Set the audio menu to 'Full Processing Mode', and select FILE | SAVE WAV from the menu's. Call it NEMESIS.WAV
That's the file you convert in BeSweet GUI.

some people told me that wil resul more brillant (and better) image.

Could I use that script for other XviD titles??? (renaming some voices)ù

AVISynth version 2.08 doesn't work in the YV12 colorspace, so I would have to assume it would either fail on a source file using YV12 colorspace, or your input would be converted to RGB, or YUY2. Generally converting from one colorspace to another either results in no change, or a loss in color detail. If you want more saturation, there are AVISynth commands to increase the color saturation.

Beta versions of AVISynth 2.5 do work in the YV12 colorspace if I remember correctly and it's faster than YUY2. I just use 2.08 because it's stable, fast, and the MPEG2DEC plugin still works with the 2.0 release. It does not work with the 2.5 release. I use the filters in that plugin on a fairly regular basis.

To answer your other question, yes, you can use this script on any source file. Just change the path to match your new input AVI. If you want to use if on MPEG files, you need DVD2AVI (version 1.76), and MPEG2DEC. Both should be in the TOOLS section. v1.76 of DVD2AVI can also be found on the www.doom9.org website.

You can simply drag and drop your .AVS script into Media Player. It should either play, or give you a line # with an error in your script.
