All down to personal opinion on this subject I think ............

I bought a Pioneer A05 mainly because of price, the DRU500 did have problems, I don't need DVD+R, and the reviews were slightly better towards the Pioneer, plus again because the Pioneer was at least £50-£100 cheaper, I didn't need the home user package just the drive, but couldn't get just the bare drive

If you think you are going to need DVD+R, but don't see why, DVD-R is still more popular, the media is cheaper and can be burnt faster, then get the Sony

But, if you're looking for compatability to be able to do everything but DVD-Ram, even though there are now drive that do everything, they stick with the Sony

If you think this problem may occur again, go with the Pioneer

Or just wait a few more weeks (months?) for the PIONEER A06 which does both, and CENDYNE will most likely have a cheaper version too.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

If it were me - I would take the Sony - use it until the A06 comes out - and then sell it on EBAY - using the money towards the A06. Then you have the best of all worlds - a good deal on the A06 & an interim player in the mean time. (If you don't need it desperately, you could always sell the Sony new (more $$) on Ebay and wait for the A06's availibility).

If you just bought the A05 I would just then return it and wait for the A06. I didn't understand if the A05 was new, or not...

  5. Hmm it's about three months old now?
so it's still under pioneer warranty but i bought an extended warranty from the store and they are willing to replace it,

i've had this problem since day one realy when i burn audio cd's
even after i formated the burner wont burn past
    4x on audio cd

i had originally firmware 1.21 then they did an upgrade at the store to 1.30 not the heck version to see if that would make a diff. but nothing so they are repalcing it but they have no A05 in stock at the moment!
