  1. what is the easiest way to take video from a DVD and convert it to .avi.
tools: I have Adobe Premier and DVDLab & PowerDVD

    1) one could I play a DVD on PowerDVD and send the video out to external VCR deck to capture??
    2) how would I do this internally, used to going from avi to mpeg to DVD, but not the other way around. Thanks-sg

Sounds like you want to make a VCR copy of a DVD but the DVD has copy protection so you can't go straight from your stand alone DVD player to your VCR ... correct?

If so you need to remove the copy protection from the DVD. You can do this by ripping it to the HDD using DVD Decrypter (in file mode) as this will remove all the copy protection. If you have a TV out on your computer you can use that hooked up to your VCR to make a copy.

You could also rip the DVD to your HDD then back to a DVD-R disc. The new DVD-R disc will be region free and copy protection free. So you can play that DVD-R on a stand alone player and hook it into a VCR to copy. If the disc is a single layer disc then do an ISO rip and ISO burn with DVD Decrypter. If it is a dual layer disc then better to just rip in FILE mode and play it back out through the computer's TV out otherwise you will have to create a DVD-R with something like DVD2ONE or DVDSHRINK etc.

  4. However, if you *truly* want an AVI of it (like for playing around in editing the film for clips, etc.) like I did recently, then you want to do the following:

    1) Rip it using DVDEncrypter.
    2) Take the resultant VOB files and demux them (using TMPGEnc or some such) into an MPEG.
    3) Take the MPEG and convert it to an AVI (using this: http://www.vidomi.com/).

All free tools except for TMPGEnc, which is free trial for MPEG2 of 14 days.

if you want to copy the dvd to a tape, just use an rf modulator.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

Are you saying that an RF modulator removes or filters out the macrovision from a DVD video?

your dvd player might not have macrovision in it.

they are making dvd players so cheap these days that some manufactors are not implementing the macrovision to save on costs
