Ok, I have been trying to get this to work for the past 3 days with no luck. I have a Dvix/avi file and want to convert it to vcd or svcd. I tried stipping the audio and converteing the ac3 to wav then encode it to mpeg but the audo is way out of sink. I vdub will not decode the ac3 audio dont know if it is because i dont have the correct codec installed or if it just does not do ac3 audio. Finaly, i used a program called avi2vcd but it is extremely slow it took 12 hours for it to get 1/4 the way through and then crashed with some internal error. I did scan the avi for bad frames with vdub and it is clean.
Is there an eaiser way to do this that will not take 3days to encode?
I have searced and followed the guides but nothing seems to work.

Remember, you have to use Virtual Dub MPEG-2 mod to work with AC3.
Hello. -
Divx with ac3 to wav
www.dvdrhelp.com/virtualdubaudio
or use Goldwave(demo available), just open the video with ac3 and save the audio as wav.
Tommyknocker: you dont need virtualdubmod...no virtualdub version can directly convert ac3 to wav but they all can rip the audio to ac3 so you can convert it with another tool. -
Baldrick... That is the method i used to the the wav file but when i encoded it back to a mpeg the audio was way out of sink.
I dl'd vdubmod but dont see the audio menu or where i can save the wav file. -
Once you've extracted the ac3 file try using BeSweet to convert it to wav. That's how I've always done it and I've had no real problems.
BTW is the audio definitely in synch in your source avi file?

if you are looking for a one'ish click solution to this, try dvd2svcd. It has an option on it that lets you convert .avi files.

I was recently given an NTSC origin AC3 DivX file and had the same problem in the beginning. This is what I did (perhaps you have the same problem).
The DivX AVI file had audio in AC3 format. Open the file with VirtualDUB (the modified version). Check file information under the File Menu and verify the frame rate for video and sampling rate for audio.
Step two is to convert the AVI file to a more compatible format. What I did was to do a direct stream copy of the DivX video stream and full processing mode copy of the audio, using no codec for audio. This results in a DivX video file with uncompressed audio.
To encode the AVI file to MPEG-2, I used Tmpgenc. It's not the fastest program, but I chose this because it allows resizing and centering the video frames into the SVCD aspect ratio. The critical part here is to encode at the same frame rate as the video stream examined in VirtualDUB. If not, audio and video will gradually get out of sync.
Now, the theory behind this is that many encoder programs have trouble with AC3 or MP3 VBR audio. No matter what, they lose sync between video and audio. In such cases, I've found that the only solution is to create an intermediate file with uncompressed audio to solve the problems. In theory you can use VitualDUB in frameserve mode and save the time, however the direct stream copy for video makes the process so fast that it doesn't matter. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
I'm attempting to take your advice and I downloaded vdubmod. The front end looks a little diferent than vdub. I don't see an audio tab so i cant figure out how to set my audio stream to full processing mode. Could you please tell me how to set up an audio extraction for full processing so that i can get an uncompressed wav.
Thanks in advance,
VCThis is so much fun!
