    Hi
I did a search but from the subject i really did'nt see a post about it.
Excuse my stupidity about mac's but i have never owned one and know nothing about them
Anyways, what is the easiest way or best freeware program to play vcd's on a Mac powerbook G4 ?
I know how to on a pc with windows media player, ect. but i have a friend who has the above system and called me asking how to play them, i don't even know if it comes with a video player that will play them like windows. or if you can use windvd on a mac ?

    Thanks

  2. Although not freeware, MacVCD is the best software to play VCD's on the Mac. Here's a link: http://www.mireth.com/text/macvcd_sp.html

    ummmm yea.....
    DONT USE THAT
    instead.... tell your friend.....

    VLC (video lan client) www.videolan.org

If you have vcd as cd, put it in the drive, open VLC and go to FILE OPEN DISK. choose VCD and then push OK
    then push the play button.

If you have it on the HD in form as .bin/.cue simply drag the .bin to VLC application icon, it will start playing

if you have it as mpeg file, just drag it to VLC.

    you get the idea.

By the way, Winblows apps wont run on a mac. This is the best multimedia source player out there.

will play basically anything, even partioned .rar's!
    amazing app.
(is out for PC also so you can enjoy it also!)
    Enjoy!

    FREE
But out of curiosity, isn't there anything that comes with the O.S. that lets you play vcd's ? I never even asked what version she was running for an os ?
But I'll tell her to give it a try.
    Thanks Much!!!!

Sure, quicktime, but it will take a little work (ie extracting the .mpeg file)

Typically VCD is a cdr so to be able to "play" the disk you need an app.

you wont find WINDOWS media player on a mac, for obvious reasons.
So you get Quicktime instead. Yes its a great media player, but there are better.

So a quick download of VLC makes it psuedo-system included and your set to go.

Personally, i prefer the ability to "choose" [not predescribed by microsoft] what I want that works well, and this app is simply amazing.

Actually you WILL find WMP for Mac, but AFAIK it won't play VCD and is still at version 7 whereas the Windoze version is version 9. I myself have it simply for the occasional website that has content as .asf instead of .avi. Why would anyone do that?

Anyway, do get VLC, not later, but now!
