  1. Ever heard of this burner called Cendyne (Dual Format)??? Is it any better then the NEC 1300A, because the strong incompatibility with cheap media frightened me of the NEC. The sony would be another choice, but i would prefer a differenet make.

Then there is the optorite, the TDK , the LiteOn LDW-400D (LiteOn DVD-ROM site is under construction) and the verbatim (pdf)

They are all DVD + - RW....I cannot make up my mind which one to buy. The one shouldn't be too vounerable to cheap media like the NEC i.e. Ritek, Accu, Optodisc, DVD Pro...

    thanx

  2. I think someone here said the Cendyne burner was a re-branded Sony burner.

  4. I have the Sony DRU-500ax which works well with cheap Ritek 4x media (as long as you don't mess with firmware updates IMO). I had a DRU-500a but it died after about 300 burns.

I'd be more likely to believe the Cendyne to be a Pioneer A06. Are these things een out yet?
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  6. The Cendyne Dual DVD burner is a rebadged Verbatim Drive, which is the same as the NEC drive.. Don't know if they have the same -R problem as the NEC drive.

the Liteon Drive is a rebadged Sony drive

So there is only 3 Multi-format Drive on the market, Sony, TDK and NEC (for what I know)

  7. Ok u confused me now...

explain me please...what does rebadged mean?

Is the TDK any good then?

  8. In simple terms, rebadged means company A makes the drive and company B buys it from company A and resells it under company B's brand/logo. To muddy the waters a bit, sometimes company A sells its own drive under its own brand/logo.

  9. OK....so is the Cendyne the exact same moddle as the Verbatim...strange...why would they wanna do that?

Anyway if they are the same is then the Cendyne (Verbatim/NEC) drive any good?

Or shoudl I buy the Verbatim instead of the Cendyne as there is a minor difference?

What about the TDK? Is it any good?

(recall: i wanna use cheap media) I read in another message board that all NEC writers were very unrealible.

  10. I really don't see what the point would be to be able to burn both formats, because 90% of the people I know only burn one or the other, but that's beside the point. It will be interesting to see how pioneer makes the transition to dual format writers. The 105 is excellent, and so I imagine that the -R aspect of the drive will be equally good, but with pioneer being a rookie in the +R forum, I would wait to see what the reports are on media compatability, etc. (pioneer is known for not supporting cheap media, although they've been doing well as of late with new firmware).

  11. The point is that if DVD-R is getting outdated; I can use the DVD+R function (vice versa). I dont want to buy a DVD burner that is useless to me in a coupla of years. But i also dont want a DVD burner that doesnt burn most of the media....

Please I need more feedback on these burners....

  12. Understood, but i seriously doubt that either format will go out before both are replaced by the blue-ray that is already out in Japan. Give it a few years, and we'll all be buying those so that we don't have to compress anything to get it to fit on a stupid 4.38gb disc.

I think your best shot for feedback would be looking at the writer reviews. In most cases people state what kind of media they've used, and whether it was successful or not. Also, do a media search on some of the media that you're interested in and put the drives you're considering in the search parameters.

  13. So how extremly vounerable are the Dual Format Drives then....what about single format drives...aren't they then???

What about the LiteOn DVD+ - RW? No reviews for media found.

Out of the discussion i get the impression i shouldn't buy a dual format one as they aren't any good.....so I guess i have to choose between one of the DVD-RW burners....I guess the Pioneer ones are the best then...

I don't see the interest of a Multi-format DVD.. some user does and it's ok.. but for the same price of a SOny Drive, you can get a good DVD-RW drive for 199$ and a DVD+RW drive on ebay for 120$

Total for 2 drive: 320$... same price (and even lower) than Sony multi burner.. so when someone say: I don't want to have an usable drive after 1 year (if one format isn't supported anymore) if fact he pay 2 time the price so changing in 1 year or paying twice the price now is the same thing for me... anyway just my opinion

and for the Pioneer, my friend have one, and with Hacked firmware, it's a really nice drive... With the Firmware on the drive (not hacked) my LG burner is better :P

  17. I made up my mind...i just bought the Pioneer A05 OEM for $197 inlc. tax and free shipping from Shop4Tech. I guess u convinced me...It is better to buy a good single format burner and in case of a change of standart another one ;instead of buying a dual one, which is too expensive or doesnt work.

    Thanx......can't wait to have it...
