You need to encode the file (probably AVI) to MPEG-2 DVD compatible which will compress it down to around 4GB (depends on settings you pick).

TMPGEnc Plus (you can get a 14 day demo here), it is such an important tool, it is worth the purchase.

How do you manage to cut commercials or do you just leave them in? Mpeg-2 cutting not as easy as cutting AVIs. Since you are using satellite TV as your source pic quality is probably adequate. Since I use VHS tapes for my source, I have to cap as AVI and then add filtering and edit the file. I can stand the encode time even though my computer is a slow PIII 1 GHz. The results are MUCH better that way. I tried using direct Mpeg-2 caps from VHS at 6 - 8 Mbps but the final output was always much worse than the AVI route...

I timeshift my sat movies to MPEG1 1856k DVD-complaint video with my ATi All In Wonder, and dump straight to disc. The MPEG1/low bitrate gives really good quality, yet can stick hours and hours on a single disc.

Real good for the DSS 3-hour porn ppvs.

Lower than perfect DVD? Yes, a little, but better than most VCD, and I'm not worried about perfection. I just want it for later casual viewing with the wife. Pixels are the least of my worries for those movies.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

    Hello

I've fouind that the Tmpgenc DVD authoring program, 30 day trial, cuts very well for me. I do all the cuts, then add chapters and it sdeems to be fine. I'll be doing more testing this weekend.

    Cheers
