  1. Hi!
I use Smart Ripper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc. I ripped Miss Congeniality and got a full screen file (with a 16/9 source). I tried to see if there was something to do without succes. This is strange because I ripped other movies in 16/9 and got the same output format.
Is there anything to check before I start encoding?
    I will appreciate your help.

  2. Go to Advance tab under the MPEG setting. Fiddle around the source aspect ratio. Before ecoding, use the preview to check your output. The "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" option should solve your problem but it's safer to check out the preview first.

u know, what i've noticed is that if there are no black borders (it is not letterboxed) when you are previewing it with DVD2AVI, and it's 16x9, it is probably anamorphic and using any "16x9" aspect ratio under the Advanced tab for source aspect ratio seems to work.

but if you see top/bottom black borders when previewing it with DVD2AVI and it's 16x9 (letterboxed), then using "4:3 NTSC (704x480)" for the source aspect ratio seems to work better. make sure you clip the top/bottom borders in DVD2AVI.

  5. Those "huge black bars" won't come out if you have a 16:9 TV set. If have one, wow! You'll see the difference once you've experience it.

An anamorphic letterboxed 16:9 source for needs a different arrange method depending on how wide the widescreen presentation is. I wholeheartedly agree: dont blindly encode! Use Preview!
