divfix and vdub mp3 work well for finding errors in avi files, both programs can be found in the tools section

i use both programs to check and fix errors i first use divfix to scan the avi (scans quicker then vdub) this will tell you if there are any errors and the frame number the errors start at...if divfix finds any errors i then open it in vdub and 'scan video for freezes' this will create a text file in your c: drive called 'badframes.log' in this text file it will show you ALL the bad frames and you can use vdub to mask or delete them

there are guides on how to do all that
