  1. Hi,
Just taking suggestions on anyone who has a Toshiba 5002 and a Toshiba 2700 or 2800 DVD Player. What DVD-R blank media do you use & have found the most success with? I purchased some Princo DVD-R/W's and they have been working out ok with my Apex 1100 but not on my 2700 or 2800 (they don't support DVD-R/W media). Any suggestions on Toshiba compatible DVD-R's & even where to buy them in the US would be welcome. Thanks.

  2. I use the True 2X media from www.allmediaoutlet.com and the Samsung BeAll. Both have worked good, no coasters and compatibility too. I think that the BeAll's are better, but they only burn at 1X with this drive.

  3. I've have had 0 problems with Maxell DVD-R's and I've also used Verbatims. A little pricy but when I use Optodisk, Princo, Ritek or any kind of cheap media I don't have alot of success just a lot of coasters. So I think I stick to either Maxell or Verbatim for now.

  4. I used Meritline 6 sample pack and they all burned ok but at 1x. I used Maxell they burn at 2x with no problems. I just got Meritline true 2x but I haven't used them yet.

  5. I tried the Meritline True 2x and they burned on my Toshiba 5002 fine as 2x. I used DVDInfo on them and it shows MXLRG01 Maxell.

  6. Are you all using a Toshiba DVD player for playback? I've used Princo's and they only work on my Apex 1500 but I tried the Verbatims & they work on both the Toshiba & the Apex DVD players. I'll check into the price of the Maxell's and the Meritlines. Thanks for your suggestions!

  8. I don't get it... if this is a 2X drive, and the media is certified 2X, why would it not write at 2X?

Actually, using Nero (with latest update), I get the option of 1X or 1.9X (I assume the 1.9X is really 2X). I start burning, and shortly after starting, it jumps down to 1X.

I've used Samsung BeAll (2X), Taiyo Yuden (2X), and a no-namer that is supposed go up to 4X.

Is there a firmware update that I need to install? If so, where can I get it? I called Toshiba's technical support about this. As helpful as they were, I might as well of called my 90 year old grandmother.

  9. Here is the suggested media from Toshiba:

    DVD-R
    Taiyo- Yuden
    TDK
    Mitsubishi Chemical
    Hitachi Maxell
    Mitsui Chemical
    Pioneer
    Panasonic
    Ritek
    CMC

    DVD-RW
    TDK
    Mitsubishi Chemical
    JVC
    Pioneer
    Ritek
    CMC

I haven't burned one coaster with any of the media Toshiba suggested. The Taiyo- Yuden (FujiFilm) really is the best. But I have also had excellent results with the Ritek (G03) as well. Here are a few sites that I have ordered from with good results:
    http://www.shop4tech.com/
    http://www.supermediastore.com/

To answer the firmware question, I believe the 1032 is the newest BIOS. You can find it here:
    http://forum.firmware-flash.com/portal.php

BTW....The Apex's will generally play anything you throw in there...including waffles!
I use my Panasonic to guage how my burns do...since this is a older machine and much more picky.

  10. I have been using Princo 1x and made 40 or more discs with zero problems. Just bought some Ritek 2X Gen 3, and the first disc I made was a coaster. Made a few more that seemed to burn ok, but Riteks will not play in my stand alone player Sony DVPS550 (Princos were no problem with my Sony). Would upgrading the firmware help my situation?

Tried Princo on my Toshiba 5002 but burning with DVD Decrypter and Instant Copy they are freezing near end and won't play at all in computer's DVD Rom (Toshiba M1712). I am using WinDVD Platinum and if the dvd is compressed any with Instant Copy I get error and it won't play on the M1712. When they are played on the home Panasonic and Pioneer they have problems near the end of the disc. (freezing and stuttering with digifacts)
Think of trying the Ritek's but have read some bad reviews on them also.
I read something in this forum on the Taiyo Yudens but that is the only time I have seen anything on these disc's.
