Strange DVD resolution

I have a DVD which is in a strange resolution (352x576)... thats right its taller than it is wide.

Anyway, I can't seem to copy it. If I try the basic method of creating an iso with dvd decrypter then burning I try to play it back but my player throws a fit. If I try DVD-copy in Nero the same happens so I go back to the drawing board and break it down to audio and video files

when I encode it through tmpgenc the m2v file comes up with loads of lines on the screen, then if I author and burn it the problem is even more apparent on my TV, every few seconds the picture just goes mental and shakes all over the place, but its not on the original source.

can anyone help me please??????

It's a PAL CVD. I bet it's 25 fps? Assuming you are NTSC, You can follow a PAL conversion guide, but you are going to have to shoot for 352x480 (CVD, which is DVD complient) and an NTSC framerate?

If you PAL, then it (should?) be complient. Sounds like you had a framerate issue during the conversion.

352x576 is DVD compliant for PAL regions. I record stuff off the TV and burn to DVD in this resolution.

yep 352x576 is totally dvd compliant , its called 1/2 D1 often ... 720 X 288 is also a legal resolution for you ..

Hello

I've never heard of the DVD Decrypter method of back-up (that is an ISO read/rip and then a ISO write/burn) to not work correctly on a single layer disc.

My guess is that maybe the player can't handle a DVD-R or DVD+R or whatever format DVD recordable you are using. It could be that your player is incompatable or that it doesn't like the brand or style of media you are using. Otherwise there might be some issues with the original DVD that are somehow affecting the read/rip method by causing reading errors. Perhaps a dirty or scratched disc?

In short, if the original DVD is single layer and works properly (plays back A-OK without any scratches etc. to affect reading it) then there is no reason why the DVD Decrypter back-up method shouldn't work.

I thought I should add something here ... I'm not 100% postive about this because I've never tried but to the best of my knowledge you can't copy a DVD-RW to a DVD-R or DVD+R and you can't copy a DVD+RW in the same mannor. So is the original a factory made DVD or a copy? If it is a copy then is it a DVD-R or DVD-RW or DVD+R or DVD+RW or DVD-RAM or what?

Its on dvd-r, and its not my player or media cos it will happily play everthing i throw at it. it must be the way I am copying it, but i sure as hell don't know what I'm doing wrong.
the "original" copy is fine but any backups I make are just cr@p.

you can copy dvd-r to dvd+r and dvd-rw to a dvd-r
