    when using Tmpgenc it say's cannot open file or file is unsupported .
    Any ideas how to get round this

    You need install the decoder d2v files so TMPGenc can read it and after encode it to mpg (VCD/SVCD/...).
    No idea to find the decoder.

    .d2v is the dvd2avi project file. you can load it to TMPG directly, if have installed the TMPG VFAPI plugin, the dvd2avi VFAPI plugin, check VFAPI plugin in both dvd2avi and TMPG. Actually, this is answered so many times on the forum. Please do a forum search.
