  1. I used DVD2SVCD build 14, but with no I-Author, so it was VCDImager for the BIN/CUE, which I burned using CDRWin 4.0a. When I tried to look at the newly burned SVCD, not view it yet, it showed up as blank... hmm, I just realized, maybe "don't show hidden files or system files" is turned off in my folder view... But the same thing happened when burning with Nero 5.5.4.0, it completed the process with no shown errors, but the resulting SVCD was not recognized...
I have not yet tried it in a standalone player. Shouldn't I be able to see the bin I just burned as data when look at the CD? like in Windows Explorer?
Also, I have read elsewhere that The Matrix has lots of problems in conversion, so no I'm trying 6th sense, but I'm worried about the same problem...

On another note, I have downloaded a few DivX movies, and I was trying to encode them to VCD using Nero's built in encoder, but it keeps freezing up... I was trying to avoid decompressing the audio, as TMPG won't accept the .AVI file directly. Does the Nero encoder ever work? Or Virtual Dub the way to go?

    Thanks for the help

Are you using a cracked version of cdrwin? If so thats the cause. Cdrwin uses an ingenious protection which allows you to unlock the program with an invalid serial and it will even operate normally for a period of time but eventually and at random it will start burning blank disks. If your version is cracked uninstall it and delete any reg keys that refer to it and then re-install it and just use the demo mode to see if that was your problem. If not maybe try a different version of cdrwin.

TMPGenc should have no problem accepting a divx avi. Do you have the divx codec installed? Thats all you need. Nero can encode divx avi's fine but neros encoder is very bad quality compared to others. Decompressing the audio in virtual dub takes only a couple of mins. Do that and use that wav for audio in TMPGenc and just load your divx for the video, assuming you figure out why its not accepting it.

  4. Yes, it is a cracked version of CDRWin. I'll try with EZCD 4.0, maybe that will work. Do you know when CDRWin started using that protection? I would prefer to try that, as my experiences in the past with Roxio have been not so good, but I can't afford to buy the real CDRWin, but I know it works at 1x on demo speed.

Thanks for the virtual dub tip. I didn't know it just took a few minutes, I was dreading another super slow wait & watch session...
    thanks for your help

As far as I know cdrwin has always had that protection. Some very early relases that I used definitely had it. Cdrwin is really one of the cheapest burning programs on the market, if your a student you can get it even cheaper. Last time I checked it was under $100 so I would really recommend buying it.

I hate suggesting using cracked software but you might try fireburner. It does just about everything cdrwin does and does a decent job of it but the protection it uses is not nearly as hard to bypass as cdrwin's.

I know how you feel about roxio and particularly ez cd creator. I had nothing but problems with that line of software and I personally think it is a horribly made program.
