  1. Hi

I bet this has been asked half a million times, but here goes...

I will be using TMPGEnc to make an SVCD. However, I want to improve the quality of my video. I would normally encode this film (Alien) onto three CD-Rs, and this is what I still want to do. If I use the VBR option and set it to have an average and max bitrate of 2520kbps, it should turn out about the same size, perhaps a bit smaller.

But, my question is this. If TMPGEnc has to go over the video and analyse it beforehand, will this help to improve the quality of the video? Even though I am not giving it any more bitrate to work with, I am hoping that it would be able to get rid of blockyness on scene changes etc.

    Hmmmmm......

By setting the average and max bitrate to the same value, the mpeg will just be the equivalent of a CBR of the same bitrate - it will just take longer to encode.

    This should sort you out:
