if i did not deinterlace a clip, then burnt it to disk as a svcd, and play it back through my standalone dvd player, would i still see the interlaced lines on my tv![]()
(just wondering because when extract a vob file, i always find that they are interlaced)

No, you'll se a perfect TV-style picture.
Every TV set support interlaced video, so you'll be fine.
