  2. Video is not compressed in mp2 (mpeg-1 layer II)
    They are MPEG-2.

Use TMPGEnc, use a SVCD Template. PAL if your in a PAL country. NTSC if your in a NTSC. Film is your source is 23.976fps(add pulldown flag later), or just regular NTSC if your source is 29.97fps.

  3. Not all videos are in MPEG-2 either. There are many different compressors and decompressors.

  4. I have TMPGEnc and have used it to merge and cut my videos with ease. My ATI captures the files as .mp2 but these are huge files. When I try to convert with TMGEnc so the file will be sized for a burn it gives an error and does not recognize my files? I tried the suggestions in other posts, Im sure its somethin simple?

.mp2 is an audio file. are you trying to load it as video?

  6. When I capture TV on my ATI Radeon 9800 is saves original files as .vcr
When you right click on .vcr the option is save as MPEG-2 and I say yes.
Then wherever i saved file it shows up as .mp2 it plays fine video and audio in all types of players but if I want to compress for SVCD burn the TMPGEnc does not recognize?

Sounds like ATI is converting it to MPEG2, but naming it the non-standard way ".mp2". To fix this part, all you have to do is rename the extension in Explorer to ".mpg".

If TMPGEnc is not accepting it, that doesn't surprise me: it doesn't natively accept MPEG2 files. You either have to Frameserve from another program that DOES accept MPEG2 (e.g. DVD2AVI) or add the acceptable MPEG2 codec (Sony, Ligos, Mainconcept--these only for TMPGEnc v 2.57 and above).

  8. Thanks, the DVD2AVI did the trick. Everything is coming together real nice now. This is a great forum.
