  1. These are the seetings which give me the best SVCD quality to view home made movies on my DVD player (PAL) so far:
    resolution: 420x576
    Aspect ratio: 4:3 (although I'm shooting in 16:9)
    Frame rate: 25 fps
    Rate Control Mode: 2 pass VBR (Average: 2500, max 3000 min )
    Motion Search precision: Highest quality

    On Advanced tab:
    Video source type: Interlaced
    Field Order: Top field first (A)
    Source Aspect: 4:3 PAL (again I shoot in 16:9)
    Video Arrange Method: Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

  2. resolution of course should be 480x576, that nobody has noticed this

    Try also to encode to 352X576
    You will see the same picture, but smoother
