  1. My APEX660 won't FF properly with any VCD or SVCD I make. I burn then with both NERO 5.0 on my PC and also directly from video source to CD with the Likko KC-2100 video disc recorder. I've tried both CDR and CDRW. When I press the "FWD" >> button on the remote, the unit steps quickly backwards to the beginning of the track. the only way I can advance is to GOTO XX:XX where the time I enter is actually double where I actually want to end up. Discs that are commercially manufactured (DVD and VCD) work ok. Anyone know how to fix this?

  2. You have to include a scandata.dat file in the EXT folder for your SVCD burns. This will enablr FF/RW on your 660. It will not fix the goto problem.

Use Wordpad to create a text file that contains the following:

    scan_vcd

Save the file as scandata.txt. Then rename the file to scandata.dat. Drag this to the EXT folder in Nero when you're setting up your burn.

    Next,

I have a Apex 660 too, and have the same problem with SVCD. I did what you said and the problem is still there. I downloaded the latest update from Nero and it has a scandata file included in the Ext folder but it doesn't work either. Do you or else have an idea about what could be the problem.

When setting up the scandata.dat file make sure the first line contains "scan_vcd" without the quotes. And don't hit return or enter just save the file and then rename it.

The latest version of Nero 5.5.4 with the scandata.dat file does not work. This fact has been posted before. Also the latest version does not allow me to drag my scandata.dat file into the EXT folder. For this reason I'm back to using version 5.5.3.5. Setting up the file is easy. Just follow my post above. It works every time for me.

    One more thing Next,

Whenever I use the older version of Nero it states the file is not a standard file whereas the latest update accepts the file as a standard format. If I cut off the compatibility check box in Nero it works fine. Do you know why this happens? The file I am using is 100% SVCD standard.

just use vcdimager to make the .bin/.cue file and use CDRwin to burn your disk...

    works every time.

the nero won't work right on SVCD
VCD imager will work, and I feel is the best solution.

I use VcdImager and CDRWin, and have the same problems (FF and Go-to)... I've also noticed that when I play a SVCD, and display the "time elapsed" or "time remaining" on-screen, the time doesn't match up with what the Apex reports on the front panel: i.e. my disc is 56:23 running time, but when I load it, the front panel displays 77:45. I assume the problems are related; or is it just my Player? (Apex AD-600A w/ N6 firmware)
I'm also starting to think that it may have something to do with the encoding method; I didn't notice the "time" or "go-to xxx" problem until I started using CinemaCraft encoder; when I made SVCD's encoded with TmpgENC, I never noticed it.... I'll have to experiment to find out.

  9. Next,
I did as you recommended and still the problem remains. So now, I'm stuck for another suggestion. Thanks for the try! Also, let me correct what I said in my opening post: The problem is only present on SVCD discs, the 660 works correctly on all VCDs.

    Next,

I tried what you said, I also tried VCDImager and still have the same problem. I wonder if it is a problem with the Apex 600 Player and SVCD. I've made many coasters attempting to create 1 SVCD that FF and rewinds but to no avail. Thanks for your help, it seems to be a lost cause.

  12. I still cannot get Nero 5.5.4.0 to let me drag this SCANDATA.DAT file into the EXT folder. What did you guys do? If it isn't possible -- how do I downgrade back to 5.5.3.5? I don't have the install file anymore and it isn't on the Ahead site.

  13. I managed to find 5.5.3.5 on some italian site so don't worry about it.

However, the disc I made with this SCANDATA.DAT file does not allow the FF/RW on my 600a. Is it only the 660 that allows it?

Just recently I was unable to create a satisfactory SVCD that would work on my DVD player. The disk had problems playing on other DVD players as well. The fast forward function wouldn't operate properly, with different results on other players. After getting to the point of giving up I tried the Ulead Plugin and all my problems were solved. All the functions worked with no kinks on my player and my other friend's players.

This plugin reminds me of Spruce in it's operation, I was able to create menus and chapters without reading a manual within 5 minutes. I kid you not this was the answer to my prayers.

This plugin also writes to a DVD-R and can create menus and chapters for VCD. For those of you who are tired to hit and miss give this Plugin a chance.

The only set back is that you need to have Media Studio Pro or Video Studio for the Plugin to operate.
