    Hi there,
I have a movie in 25 fps, and I'm tring to convert it to NTSCFilm, but I get hicups every couple of seconds. I'm frameserving in vdub (adding subtitles) and encoding in TMPGEnc.
Is there any way to avoid this hicups or chukynes?, what happens if I use a PAL template?, will my Sony DVP-NS315 play it? or will the TV be the problem then?

    Thx everyone.

  2. If your source is interlaced, deinterlace it. You actually have to change to playing time to do the transfer properly, rather than decimating frames or duplicating frames. Just open the file up in VirtualDub, and set the fps to 23.976. This doesn't change the amount of frames just how fast they are played. So you have to slow down the audio to match. I use BeSweet to do this.

What is you destination? VCD? SVCD? DVD? AVI?

If MPEG-2 (SVCD or DVD) then encode as 23.976fps(Film) and use pulldown.exe to telecine up to 29.97(NTSC standard)
If MPEG-1 leave it as 23.976fps. The DVD player should auto-telecine.

  3. There is a menu at the top that says video.
Video > Frame Rate > Set as 23.976

the destination is SVCD + header trick.
Got the thing about the video framerate, know to the sound. Can you please explaine it a little further please?, I have to work with the sound and use the .vdr from vdub as video source in tmpgenc and the BeSwet new file as sound sourse?

    Thx again.

My standalone DVD players will not work at 23.976 or 24fps they hiccup just like you describe. It must be 29.97 fps. I don't know your player but maybe that is your problem also.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

You can skip virtual dub if you want. Just take your 25fps source and encode straight to 23.976fps in TMPGenc, but on the advanced tab click the "do not framerate convert" filter. This changes the playback speed rather than add or decimate frames.

All SVCD and VCD compatible DVD players can play ntscfilm encoded material. For SVCD you must include the pulldown flags though.

  10. I didn't know about that. I don't suppose that converts the audio too?
I was gonna suggest frameserving from avisynth the the assumefps filter. but that works too.

No I was only talking about the video. You still have to adjust the speed of the audio separately, and I think BeSweet's built in region conversions are still the best way to do that.

  12. I thought so. But still, the framerate thing is pretty cool.

The sourse is an AVI file, and I need VDub in order to put subtitles to the SVCD.

    Ok stick with Vdub then

As for audio, load the avi in Vdub and do file/file properties. If its 5 channel audio than set the audio tab to direct stream processing, hit file/save wav, rename the .wav to .ac3, and load it in Besweet as an Ac3.

If Vdub reports it as 2 channel then set the audio tab to full processing, hit file save wav, and import the audio into BeSweet as a wav file.

Once in Besweet, look to the bottom left and enable the PAL->NTSC (25fps->23.976fps) option. Then encode to mp2. There is a nice BeSweet guide on www.doom9.net.

Once you have encoded both your audio and video, multiplex them together using either TMPGenc or BBMpeg.

    ADAM,
That was all I needed to know.
It worked flawless. Saved the WAV from VDUB, comverted it PAL->NTSCFilm in BeSweet, Frameserved video from vdub changing the framerate to 23.976, encoded in TMPGEnc using the .vdr as video source and the new .wav (the one generated in BeSweet) as audio source....the result, no hicups and everything sync.

    THX

    DAMN,
Now, with video & audio perfectly sync'ed.....Subs r absolutly out of sync...I thought that VDub will convert'em to 23.976 too.....but it didn`t. How can I fix this?

    Thx

  17. Use avisynth to frameserve to TMPGEnc. As for the subs out of sync. Open up SubResync. I think it has an automatic framerate convertion.

It was .srt in the first place. I did convert them to .ssa & .sub.
I've been trying to do this with subresync, but really can't get it....I don't know how to use it.

    OK, I finally did it.
The subtitle framerate convertion had to be from 23.976 to 25, in order to fit video convertion from 25 to 23.976.

Still I can't get why, but that was it .....after 3 days, everything is perfect now.

    Thx everyone for replaying.
