Decent, but not the best by any means. On par with Princo.

How do you know that? Have you used them yourself? Or are you just guessing? If it were up to you, any disc thats not from a big name company would be "on par with Princo".

Are all DVD-R disks on sale? Such as the Verbatims, or only the store brand? Office Max is where I buy my DVD-R disks, but I always go for the Verbatims because it seems like people say they last the longest. And if they are on sale then I'll be heading that way on the way home.

well I'm headed of to Office Max I have an Apex that damn near reads anything I throw into it and a quirky GE that doesn't read anything, even though it's stickered on the front saying it supports all types of media. Go figure....

  9. Picked up 2 packs of these for $54 with tax, have burnt 3 so far, all work in my apex and my pioneer stand-alones.
They also burn at 2x with the hacked firmware for the dvr-105.
They burn fine at 2x with the factory 1.30 firmware in my dvr-105 as well.

I've used at least 1,000 Princo discs and about 125 of the Khypermedia. The Kmedia discs have the same issues of becoming frisbies concerning bad data writing near the end of the discs, and the kmedia are also partially uncoated on the top (worse than Princo in this aspect).

The end-write error are very pronounced issues on cheap discs, but the Princo have coatings to protect them longer than the Ritek and other junk people tend to buy (which will surely die in 5 years, I know, I've experienced that with CD-R, and unlike CD, you cannot label a DVD and expect good results).

I like Princo. I use them for non-important stuff all the time, as well as for other people. The Kmedia are the same quality, and good discs when I need an emergency supply of cheap-o's and cannot wait for mail order shipments.

Anybody looking for GOOD discs should spend money and buy them. Apple, Pioneer and to a lesser extent, Maxell, Verbatim and OptoDisc.

I have bought these disk in the past and and burnt them with my Pioneer DVR-105 I find that at the end of some videos it look as if the encoding was bad. When I then burn the same video with Maxells the same video plays fine. Id say about 20% of these disks have this sympton.

Yeah the Khypermedia is about as good as Princo. I bought a bunch of them when I first got started, and some of them being only, 5 months old or so, will not let you extract the unencrypted files no matter what your method - ie - isobuster, bad copy pro, making an image of it, etc....).

so bad sectors right off the bat, like the quality of the almighty crapper - princo

  15. I bought the Khypermedia DVD-r's from Office max a few months ago when I got my DVD burner (an A-05) I actually bought the 10 spindle and then 2-5 packs with the jewel cases. I then later bought another 10 spindle.

The first spindle worked just fine. The first pack of 5 worked fine. The 2nd pack of five were ALL bad. About a week later I bought the 2nd 10 spindle. They were all bad.

I have sworn off Khypermdia based on that experience. Not trying to sway ANYONE's opinion because there is always going to be the guy that says, "I buy these all the time and they are great". I have since then been buying 50 pack spindles of of the site that advertises at the top of dvdrhelp.com (both meritime and the other one), buying their cheap house brands and ALL have worked fine.

  16. These disc works fine. I burnt 15 of them and they played back on my Sony 715p and my PS2. Don't know if this is accurate but DVD decrypter tells me they are TDKs.

I really wasn't supporting Khypermedia, it was more of a question directed to you. I've seen you say in other posts bascially everything is bad unless its made by some big name company(Apple, TDK, etc.) I don't feel that's the case. Granted less expensive discs(whether cd or dvd) might have a higher chance of having issues with them, but all you have to do is watch out what you buy. I've had unbranded(no label, just silver on top) discs from four years ago that still read fine. I just don't think you should set everything in stone because I know you've never tried out every single CDR brand and tested it for degradtion.

Looking at the media list, Khypermedia's are made by CMC. I just don't trust that company, I've had a bad experience with their CDRs.
