  1. I realize this isn't going to make any sense... but I've been capturing, converting and authoring for a while and never had anything like this happen:

If I capture - using iuvcr or MMC 7.7/8.1 and capture uncompressed avi's they are beautiful, but if I capture ANY type of compressed file MJpeg, Huffy, Divx 5 or ATI's (S)VCD template, although there are no lost frames - on playback the file plays back jerky.

I know it is in the recording as the file plays the same way on another machine.

    I've enough horsepower 2.4 gig P4, 500 gig RAID, 512Meg Memory etc.

I just don't even know where to start to trouble shoot it.

I am using a Radeon 8500 128 Meg card which has (except for fighting drivers) performed fine.

This machine has nothing on it - XP Pro and is JUST for Video.

    Any ideas?

Check your priorities in task manager, see if you player is set to a low priority.

You may also have inadvertantly installed an old codec.

I used to have horrid XviD playback, all due to my old voodoo3 card. I got a new GeForce, and now XviD plays beautifully. But I now have blue corona problems in DivX. Noting changed but video cards and video drivers; The result is XviD is perfect and DivX has blue issues.

    Go figure?

  3. Tried that - no difference. I know it's not in the recording as it jerk's in different places and I can play it on other machines fine.

THIS machine ANY compression and this is what happens, the sound is fine, the pic looks fine, but jerks just enough to be distracting.

MAN, this is driving me crazy.
