Whats up everyone. I am looking for a capture card that I can hook up my cable to and record cable/tv shows to the hard drive. Then I would like to burn to a DVD so I can watch the shows at a later date.I also would like to be able to open the recorded file in premiere so that I can edit out the commercials. What card do you recommend for this? I was looking at the ADVC-100 by canopus but I do not see a port on the front or the back for a coxial cable (RG6). Please help me in the search.
I went out today and got creative digital vcr but after reading the reviews here I didnt even up the item and Im going to return it tomorrow. Thank you all in advance.
Mike

I like my MSI TV@nywhere card.
$75
Captures to Mpeg 1 & 2.
Not very good support but, I found all my answers at a litte site called DVDRHELP.com.
Don't know if you can open the made files in Premier. Mpeg2 is dvd format so, I would say yes. Works good in Spruce up & Ulead.Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
Well, you could use your vcr or tv as a tuner and plug that into the ADVC, then firewire to your comp.
Just because you aren't paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you! -
Well I decided to just go out and get the Canopus ADVC - 100. Anyone have any thoughts on this card?? Thanks for replys.

I've had a good run so far with the ATI AIW 7500. some places are selling them for between $100 and $150.

Umm, why are you recommending him a AIW 7500 for $200, when an 8500DV is only around $150.

Does the Canopus have a S-video input? Also what software is needed for captures. I want to be able to capture from my satellite receiver via s-video or composite to the hard drive. Later on (when I buy a DVD writer) I will transfer some of my captures to DVD. How does the audio portion sound (ie DD, PCM)?

The Canopus unit is very good and high quality, but keep in mind, it captures in DV. So you have large files and need to encode them to mpeg. The other cards mentioned use hardware to encode to mpeg so the resulting files may be able to be burned directly.
Premiere would be very good for editing DV if you use that format. If you decide to capture directly to mpeg, try Ulead Video Studio which does a much better job handing mpegs. -
You may hear different here, but this is my story.
I have been using the WinTV-PVR-250 from Hauppauge for about a year now. It is a PCI card with cable, s-video and analog imputs. I captured last season's Soprano series and burned them to VCD and DVD. It gives you all settings for MPEG1 2 and 4 DVD formats. I have captured movies and edited commercials and burned to DVD. You can also get a USB version. It comes with Titan TV Guide to schedule programs, all at no monthly fee. Also has a editor but that is weak. I use MPEG Editor from Honestech. If you get the latest updates from Hauppauge you should have no problems. You should have at least P-1.5 processor and 512 memory for good results. If you shop around you should see it for about $100-150.
