  1. After much messing around in IFOEdit and VOBEdit , I was ready to admit that I'm just too stupid to accomplish my simple goal: to extract a subpicture mask in order to re-author a menu.

But then I searched extensively here and on Doom9, and having found no obvious answer I'm led to wonder ... is this just not possible?? Is it not actually stored in the VOB as a still frame like I (a relative newbie) would logically expect?

    Thanks for any pointers.

  2. No breakthrough on my end, and no informed opinions on this end, huh? The one mention I was able to locate recommended not bothering to try -- but I take that as an indication that it CAN be done. True?

one of the mods on doom9 said that the subpictures could be extracted using subrip.

apparantly the new version of menuedit can do this as well - but you need to register it $$

  5. not sure if i am reading your post correctly.

you want just the .bmp of the menu so you can create your own buttons when you reauthor ?

anyway, if so i just play the film in powerdvd and when the menu comes up i press the capture button (capture to file).
import it to maestro and create the buttons.

  6. Not exactly. I've already got the menu BMP. What I want is the menu subpicture, which defines the shape and location of the button masks.

  7. looked into it and subrip does it.

just load the menu vob in and select ( only show subpictures)
