I see I am not the only one who is having probs with this and no capture software, I have just purchased one and it came bundled with EZDV canopus editing software which I am having difficulty in getting it to capture with. Has anybody used this software before to capture and can they give an idiots veiw of how to work it as I am new to all this. All I want to do is to capture from my vhs player some analogue motorbike videos of mine with the veiew to putting them eventually onto dvd. By the way this so called easy software comes with a 288 page manual in pdf format, some manual for a basic software, hate to think what I am letting myself in for if I get round to using adobe premiere.
hope some one can point me in the right direction with some easy way of using this software just to do some capturing. Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure the EZDV software can only capture from the EZDV card, not from generic Firewire cards. Did you get the EZDV capture card with the ADVC100?

Assuming you got all 3 (ADVC, EZDV card & software) here's what you do.

Connect the VCR to the ADVC100 via 2 phone cables and Svideo/Composite.
Connect the ADVC100 to the EZDV capture card via Firewire cable
Load one of the EZDV programs (Edit or Video I think they are named) and as long as the VCR is playing and the ADVC is switched on you sholud see the video in the capture window.

Have you got this far already? What are your specific problems?

If you do not have the EZDV capture card then you can connect the ADVC100 to any firewire port and use numerous capture programs to capture.

HI yes it came as a bundle card software and advc, in the manual it says to go video.....mark in point......then mark out point.....add then click on capture.......but cannot see anything refering to capture on the screen in question only my video playing, I did find a screen that had capture on it this ran and at the end came up with could not find in point or something like that, but I seem to remember eading somewhere that it finds the mark in and mark out point automatically. I have been onto Canopus Uk not very helpful, think I will try the USA site,
Thanks for the interest shown............Don't know what we would do without this site

It came with software!? What kind of problems are you having? Is it just getting started?

Use EZVideo to capture if EZDV has it. I don't have the program in front of me now but you will get a little window with a blue preview monitor until you turn on the ADVC-100 and the video source.
(1)There should be a line of buttons on top. I think you will need the right one from that line. Another window will pop up asking you how much to record.
    (2)Click on the second option.
(3)Type in how many hours or minutes you want to capture.
    (4)Click on the destination.
(5)Now enter/accept the time with, I think, the second button.
    (6)Capture.

When I capture and the Pause/Stop/Cancel window comes up, I hit the Cancel button once to get it to start recording. I don't know why. Probably not neccessary when recording off of digital equipment like a DV Video camera.

Before you start setting up the time to capture, set it to record in Reference AVI. It's a pain in the ass avi because you can't move the file to a different hard drive but it will allow you capture continuous avis. Otherwise capture in small segments (batch capture I think.) If you do need to move the file you just need to put it back in the same HD under the same folder (subfolders.) Or you can use the Canopus DV File Converter to move the file. Also fixes previously moved files.

    Seven

    Edit:
Wow, did I really take this long to write this up - at work right now.

My softeare seems to be totally different, maybe it is a faulty versoin or different for the UK. Mine has none of what you say about"how much to record or "capture".
    The manual states the following
    set to batch/capture
    set file name
    Click.....mark in
    Click ....mark out
    click add
    click capture
    Finished save file...........
Sounds very simple and suppose it would be if the software had the cature button where it should be, also no matter what I do with the mark in and mark out it automatically shows a figure like "in" 00.13.00.00 "out" 00.13.00.00 and after awhile IF it runs comes up with a box saying "could not find the in point"
I have given up and would not reccomend this product to anyone just staring off and just wanting to capture video from a vcr to digital. Surely it is nit difficult for someone to put on a "floppy disk" a short programme for capture must be too simple ....or maybe Canopus has shares in all the other editing software that people have to bu to get it to work. If I purchase an item that staes it will convert anaolgue video to digital I expect it to do so.
I think I have wasted enough of my time and other peoples not associated with Canopus in helping me so I will be taking it back for my money back, and look for something that will do the job.
    Thanks again
