  1. Are there any players besides QT that will play .mov files? Its like they dont exist or something. I tried this Converter EO Video that converts QT files to SVCD but it gives me errors on the audio all the time. So I threw that crap app away. Then i DL'ed this player called Ace Media Player that plays all files... Well, it sucks because the AR is all wrong and it freezes on the bigger QT mov's. Is there any way to play QT files in Zoomplayer or WinDVD powerDVD or whatever. Is there a player that does this or a codec that enables playback in other players? HELP!

  2. Nope, since Quicktime is Apple's Intellectual Property (the ultimate oxymoron of our generation) it is actually a violation of the DMCA for a media player not authorized by Apple to enable playback of files in the Quicktime format. Yeah I have seen players like the one you mentioned pop up every once in a while (EO Player, Ace Player) that can play MOV files, but they invatiably suck as players and last only as long as it takes Apple to sic their lawyers on the authors. The same holds true for Real Media, but Microsoft seems to have a much softer approach, at least for now, because they are striving for a presence in a market dominated by Real and Apple, and they are succeeding.

Anyway, enough rambling, what I do is use RAD Video Tools

to simply convert the MOV files I download to any format I want, I generally just convert to an AVI using the XviD codec, but you can use whatever codec you want.

I really don't know how this is legal (or even IF it is) perhaps they are just under Apple's radar, perhaps the method they use to convert the files somehow doesn't violate the DMCA, who knows, all I know is that it works great.

    Hope this is helpful,

CINEMATOGRAPH is an excellent all round video player.
    It plays quicktime videos.

  4. Cinematograph is a pretty decent player, but it just plays Quicktime files through the Quicktime Player and disguises it, making it legal, but retaining the same problems inherent to the Windows Quicktime Player, It also ain't free.

In light of this, I would just prefer to use Zoom Player or BSPlayer for AVIs and such and simply use Quicktime itself to watch MOVs, or just convert them as discussed above.

But of course it's all a matter of taste, try it out and use whatver you prefer.

What kind of problems are you having, because I've NEVER had any problems with QT, on Mac or PC for many years running?

  6. I really haven't had any big techinical problems with it, as I said , I actually prefer the Quicktime Player when playing MOV files. But it does have some limitations such as not being able to play full-screen with the standard version on the PC, also, on the PC only, I have run into numerous problems in conjunction with ATi carrds when playing to a TV through the TV-out, it doesn't use the overlay properly. In fairness, PowerDVD, even the latest version , has the same problem with ATi TV outs.

Otherwise, it's a fine player, especially on the Mac.

  7. I just realized that Media Player Classic can play MOV files without using the Quicktime Player itself. Very nice, but the player has limited playlist capability.
