  1. I am just trying to create a video compilation of a sequence of videos captured by my junky iPhone. Native iPhone format is .MOV and when i try to import to Vegas it says i need QuickTime installed. Since i dont like to install programs on my computer to avoid clutter (filesize isnt an issue) i' mjust wondering if i can do with some portable of QT are just registering the necessary QT files for this action.

Additionally, i tried remuxing to .mp4 with avidemux with the direct stream copy method, but some of the videos are way out of sync as a result.

    Any fix?

Maybe try remux with mp4box(mymp4boxgui or yamb) or mp4muxer and see if it works better than avidemux. But I doubt it.

  3. I think so too. But what i really am looking for is a way, to just use the essentials component needed from QT. IS there a way to know which ones are needed and how to register them so i can get it to work directly from inside Vegas without havong to go for a complete QT installation?

I've used the Convert / Save function in VLC to extract video from a .mov file for use in Vegas.

It was HD from a pro camera, not phone video, though. It took me a few tries to get all the settings correct in the VLC GUI.

  6. Are there any editors as well as VEGAS, but can also handle a variety of formats as well, so these steps should not be necessary?

Vegas can handle a variety of formats, just not .mov without QuickTime. I'm not sure about other editors on the PC platform.

QT Pro wouldn't even read the HD .mov files that VLC converted. Final Cut was required and is Mac only.

When I have to deal with .mov files, I convert them immediately, so I never have to deal with QT. It's not a big deal, when you have a solution that works.

As far as I can tell, the main (and perhaps, only) purpose of .mov format is to force you to use an Apple solution.

  9. The same issue irritated me when I first started using Vegas. I don't like having to install yet another media player. I got over it and installed QT because I have gobs of .mov files and I just wanted Vegas to work normally.

You'll spend more time trying to work around the problem than you'll spend just installing QT. Apple has a good application development team, the software won't break Windows. Apple products are OK, I'm not a fan of their business model so I'm a limited customer. I bought my wife an iPod, that's about the extent of it.

  10. I tried quicktime alternative which was the closest thing i could get without having to install the full QT. I can say that it works, so thank you Baldrick for recommending it.

BTW did it also install any k-lite codec package or is it a part of k-lite, which is it? Cause secunia prompted me with 2 software installations, and it mentioned k-lite as having been installed. Weird?
