I have a SANYO DC-DAV821 standalone dvd player. The instructions for the machine and DVD reviews say SVCD cannot be played on this machine. Being the eternal optimist i thought i would try this out for myself. SVCD, using TMPGenc did not work as audio and video were out of sync and skipped a lot. However SVCD produced with DVD2SVCD using TMPenc, from DVD's and AVI inputs worked although the initial 10 - 20 seconds of a movie contained some audio problems after this all was fine. This works for 80 - 90 % of SVCD's produced. So i decided to try the VCD Header trick.
Following the HOWTO's using TMPGenc this also failed as the same audio and video problems occured. Noticing that DVD2SVCD used bbMPEG to multiplex the file in DVD2SVCD i used bbMPEG to do the header trick, and this worked fine.
Can someone please enlighten me as to why this should be and it also may work for other people who cannot use the VCD Header trick as stated in the HOWTO's.
