I've done forum searches and read some on IC and file sizes. I've read several post about IC sizing but I'm still confused. O.K. here's what I've done ...

    1) I'm trying to back up Unbreakable

    2) First attempt (Stripped Out All Audio But English AC3 5.1). On Video put the slider around 70%, which showed an estimated? final size around 4GB (thought I'd give myself some margin). 2.5 to 3 hours later finished with a final size around 5,700,000,000 bytes. Way too large!!!

    3) Second attempt (Stripped Out All Audio But English AC3 5.1). On Video put the slider around 50%, which showed an estimated?!! final size of 3.16 GB. 2.5 to 3 hours later finished with a final size of 4,735,533,409 bytes. 35 MB or so too large!

    4) What gives? Am I missing something obvious here? How can I get a more accurate estimate of the final file size?

    5) I know I've just started using IC but this seems hit or miss and so far I'm 0 for 2.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. just keep trying, usually comes out too small for
some reason, put at 4.5 comes out to 3.85 on
a non-action movie, have you updated to 7.02
fixed a lot of bugs or go here...

musher, Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the latest IC update and installed it. Guess what ... Now IC is overpredicting the file size. With the slider at 4.3 GB for the video, the max green, I get a final file size of 3.78 GB (or 4,060,598,272 bytes). This is a better result, but I'd like to get a little closer to the 4.3 GB (or 4,700,000,000 bytes) limit. Is anyone else seeing this kind of underprediction of file sizes in IC? If so, what are you doing about it?
