Well, I have been enjoying the DVD-r world, burning my own homemade movies with iMovie, and iDVD, and now with DVD2ONEX.
Each time I go to burn, using the PC CLUB DVDs I bought, I get the 1X speed to burn.
SHould I do anything to this A05, i.e., Patch with a flash, that will make it run some disks at 2x or 4?
Or is this unit already to go? Or have I just bought disks, that will only go 1X.
Thanks..

I believe the problem is with your disks and NOT your drive.
I have the same drive (CenDyne AO5), with the same revision # 1.00, the first batch of disks I had would only come up 2X, but my most recent batch of disks come up as 4X, though I haven't burned one yet. (Pioneer 1-4X Speed). I think their more expensive, but I got them as trade from my work in exchange for the free Nero software that came bundled with the drive, what a sweet deal.
(As a side note: I have a slightly damaged disk that my drive will not rip 4 files from, but our older firmware updated AO4 drives at work have a lot fewer problems with, I don't know if that would be firmware related or not just an observation.)
