  1. Is that a good price? I need to replace my Sony DRU500A which died on me and that's the lowest price I have been able to come up with so far.

  6. $250 is a great price... especially if its from a reputable dealer that stocks the units. Check out http://www.videoguys.com/pioneer.html (their also offering free shipping right now!)

  7. I think $250 is a little high. I got mine at Staples for $239 and it came with a $50 mail-in rebate. Just got the rebate check, so about $200 total including tax.

  8. If it is from Pioneer, then its not a bad deal. If its a Cendyne or another company that uses Pioneer's drive then its not such a great deal.

    Correct!

I think "nwf_snake" bought Cendyne drive which he overpaid. I don't think Staples sell Pioneer drives. I saw several people who bought their cendyne drive for as cheap as $129 with coupons and rebates. I bought one at $159 which was still not bad at all.

My advise... Go with Cendyne. It's as good as original Pioneer. In fact, I believe they are exactly same. Same manufacturer, same specification, same function, same quality...

  10. The only difference that you get from Pioneer is that Cendyne's tech support is virtually non-existant, while Pioneer's is a step better. So in reality you are paying for the bundled SW and the support of Pioneer. Which is better is up to you, I own 2 cendynes so I've placed my vote.

$250 for a Real Pioneer wrapped box is pretty good deal (if you want to pay the premium for a real Pioneer box) for a Cendyne it is like paying the retail price. If willing to wait a month or two, the Cendyne should be on sale at Office max or Staples for below $200. I doubt you'll see the Pioneer below $250 unless some super-duper special occurs (and it may not occur)
