I am sure it would be better to buy a new one. If it was me I would open it and verify no cables have came loose. If you cannot see anything obvious throw it in the trash and buy a Sony drive.

repairing can't be that expensive to just throw it away.....maybe
How long have you had it? if under a year, contact pioneer for warranty. -
My immediate response is buy another one. Do check to see if nothing is apparently wrong with it inside like RAAGAAman suggested but if not under warranty anymore it would not be worth it to repair. Get a new 4X!!

Go buy a new one...
I once repaired JVC camcorder. The end result... $180 for labor alone. The camcorder was in warranty but labor warranty was expired after 90 days.
The usual rate for reparing computer stuff: ~$100 for diagnosis (usually deducted from the bill if you decide to fix it), ~$60-80 an hour for labor, and parts which is way over priced.
So expect to spend around $200. Then it would be better to buy a new 105, wouldn't it be? -
Where did you buy it from. The reason I ask is because I pretty much get all of my things from BestBuy. I purchased my Sony DVD Burner from there and paid an extra $100 for the 3 year service plan. So maybe that is what you should do, is go to BestBuy, purchase a Sony and get the service plan. If you have any problems you can bring it back and if they cant fix it, then you get a new one. And what is even better is that when Sony stops making the current burners and comes out with a faster one then you will automatically get one of those.
