I am a little dumb. Can anyone care to explain to me what Windows 2003 Server is? Is it like Windows 2000? I see "Server" and I know nothing about this. I have Windows XP. Is Windows 2003 Server better? Can I use it as I use Windows XP?
Microsoft has a free download trial to try this out. Should I use this over XP or is XP better?

Someone quoted in one the threads here on Windows 2003 Server: It is an equivalent to XP Server, it was supposed to be called .NET and Microsoft dropped the naming. So, it became Windows 2003 Server.Originally Posted by AND1
In my understanding it is going to be a server OS, it's not like the normal Windows such as Windows XP Pro. A server is a central computer in a network. Do you have a group of computers in a network? Are you managing a business with a web site? -
No I dont network anything. I thought it was the new Win2k. Anyway thanks for explaining that a little better for me. And those that are intrested in Windows 2003 Server they are giving out a free trial for download.

Not a problem as you aren't alone with the confusion of what the new OS is going to be and like.Originally Posted by AND1
It certainly looks like an update of Windows 2000 however it isn't. There is a Windows 2000 Server and Windows XP Server, they are as in the same family, a server. -
Windows XP Professional is the new equivalent of Windows NT4/2000
Windows XP Home is the new equivalent of Windows 95/98/98se/ME
I believe (dont quote me on this) that there was a Windows 2000 Server, for which this would be the new equivalent. -

Remember the SQL Slammer Worm last January when the Internet crashed and restored to normal very quickly. These computers above were most affected with the damage running MS SQL Server and normal computers weren't so much affected, it only clogged up network and Internet access for the others.Originally Posted by BJ_M
My computer Win2000 network was affected temporarily, no damage, it just disabled my network access by clogging the system. I had to re-start the computers twice to get it restored.
