Hi. I just bought a Sony DRU-500ULX. For the most part, I am happy with my purchase but it does not seem to be reading data as quick as I thought it should.
When I use DVDDecrypter to backup my DVDs, it only reads at a maximum of 2 speed. Shouldn't it be reading somewhere closer to 8 speed? I have an HP burner which has no problem reading the same DVD at 4 speed. This is really bugging me because I paid a lot more for my Sony DVD burner. Any suggestions?
Also, I heard that they just released a new firmware in Japan (2.0f). Is this compatible with the US release? What are the improvements?
Thanks all.

The Sony is capped at 2x with movies. Sorry, it's an attempt to discourage copying copyrighted material.
I have a Lite-On reader that does much better - it runs $40-ish.
