I have a number of Xvids i am trying to convert to VCD.

When I try and extract the audio with Virtual Dub I get an error saying "no audio decompresor could be found to decompress the audio".
These are Ac3 audio and they play fine on the PC.
If I convert the video using Mainconcept (which allows dix/xvid to be encoded without extracting the audio) the audio is out of synch with the video.

I also tried goldwave which wouldn't open them.

  2. Virtual dub

Save Wav - direct stream copy audio.ac3

    Explorer remove .wav extension

Use headac3he open file, click convert.

    Encode with tmpgenc

Let me know how it goes.

Does Gspot say that the AC3 codec is installed? If it is, then Goldwave should be able to create a wav file, it always does for me. If it isn't, then get the codec from the Tools section.

It does say the AC3 codec is installed. But Goldwave doesn't open it . It crashes.
I use Goldwave to extract to wav on most of these files but there a few that won't open.

  8. if your having problems extracting you may want to try avi2wav http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avi2wav.html
    then do what hardcoreruss said
