svcd cvd subs

i have 2 questions
1. is there anyway to add NON-permanent subs to an mpg using something rather than i-author.
2. this is kind of not the question for this forum but what the hell. what is the standar resolution for a widescreen svcd

You can use winsubmux to add cvd or svcd subs to mpg files.

SVCD is 480x480 or 480x576, nothing else. To get widescreen you add black borders and have correct aspect ratio and the dvd player will stretch so it will look okey.
