  1. How do i Play vobsub(ifo, sub, idx) files in windows media player? From the way it reads i just install the program and it should work when i click on the avi. Am i getting it wrong. I can load them in vdub no problem.

  2. You can load them in VDub because VDub can read (and apply) the VobSub filter. You need to have VDub re-encode the avi, DivX, or frameserve to an encoder to make them permanant.

  3. Bummer.

It isn't possible to subtitle as an on off option for VCD/SVCD, correct?

So the only reason they seperate the subtitling when they encode is for the people who understand japanese?

  4. IF you can find a copy of I-author you can make a SVCD with selectable subtitles. And IF your DVD player supports selectable subtitles which most do not (won't work on PC).

So basically, no. You'd have to make a x(S)VCD with permanant subtitles.

  5. Actually it does. Don't ask me why but

I re-encoded one of the avi with vdub and vobsub to get the subtitles. I went to play the file and it worked fine with subtitles. I opened another instance of media player 6.4 and played the original so i could compare quality.

Freaked me out to see that it had subtitling TOO.

So i figured mabey i messed up and wrote over the original somehow. So i closed both media players and opened a different file with seperate subtitling. THE SUBTITLING WORKED 8)

Just to make sure i moved the ifo, sub, idx files out of that directory and tried it again. No subtitles.

Perplexed i put them pack and ran the file again. Subtitles 8). Checked media player properties and found that now there was a "DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)" filter, that wasn't there before.

Bottom line: the filter does work with media player 6.4
The problem might be because i'm running win 2000 pro
