  1. Greetings,
I just picked this drive up and since have found out its pickiness for media.
    I've tried princo 1x, no go...Memorex 1x, no go....Imation dvd-rw, burnt once but now it won't erase.
I saw a list of ones they recommend. among them tdk, mitsubishi, hatachi, pioneer, panasonic, ritec, cmc.
Can anyone add to the compatability of this drive?

I bought a 25 pack of princos because I heard they worked for some but not me.
Also is there a firmware upgrade for this drive?
I want to make sure that it is not a faulty unit.

    Thanks!!

  2. I use the Ritek, also called Accu Silver Purple from Meritline.com.
They work fine so far. I like this drive and have had no problems with it. My drive is mounted in an external case and connected via firewire. I don't need any firmware upgrade yet since it works great.

  3. try to burn with the newest version of nero. I had also problems before with gear, recordnow and older versions of nero. Now i burn with nero 5.10.15 and everything works fine. I burn the riteks 1x without a problem, prodisc work also without a problem. The best are the ritek g03.They are 1x, but i can burn them 2x without a problem. Just click in nero under dvd - dvd-video and problems should be solved.

  4. I have been using Samsung BeAll and True 2x from Allmediaoutlet.com. Both have worked fine and no coasters. I did have a problem with the generic DVD-RW from meritline.

I always use RecordNow Max 4.5 to burn. No problems.

    This drive works great.

  5. Thanks for the responses guys...
I just RMA'd it back to NewEgg. After doing 10 hrs or so of research and trying every possible set up with every software and talking to Toshiba Cust Service, I am convinced I had a faulty drive.
Tried 5 different types of media (TDK, Imation, Princo, Maxell, Memorex) and only got it to burn on 1 dvd-rw and then windows couldn't open it.
So if anyone else gets one and the LED won't stop after putting in media, you might have a bad drive.

Hopefully should have the drive in a week or so and will get this moving....

    Thanks

  6. BTW, I thought it might be XP, can anyone say if they use this drive on an XP system?

    My setup:
    AMD XP 2100+
    ECS Ks75a Mobo
    XP home Edt.
    256 PC2100
    WD 60 gb HD
    IBM Deskstar 80 GBhd

Also tried on another system same thing but it was XP too....

Hope it was the drive and not some Hardware conflicts, but I just gave up on it for now...Toshiba said to make sure you don't have too many Authoring Programs on your system as it might mess it up and to try and diable UDMA on you IDE's , tried both and no, but maybe for someone else///

  9. I got same drive from newegg. Works flawless. Media used so far isn't a wide variety: Fujifilm DVD-R - burned at 2x flawless. Memorex DVD-RW - also burned flawless and was able to erase with no issues.

    System:
    Asus A7V mobo
    640 Megs RAM
    Athlon 1GHz (200 MHz FSB) T-Bird
    Windows 2000 Pro

  10. I have a problem with my R5002, most of the time, this burner stops at 70~90%. I tried different burning software (latest Nero, PrimoDVD, Instant Copy, Copy Max..) and diferent type of medium (Merorex -R, Verbatim, Ritek, and Princo) and had the same problem. So far, I can only make about 6pcs 100% burned out of 60 pcs. If you have any idea of what happened, please share with me. Thanks

When burning a DVD you should leave your computer alone and disable any screensavers as the process can be sensitive.

I have found RITEKS to be the best media.

To me though it sounds like a faulty drive

  12. I seem to have a problem with this drive, I can backup a vcd/svcd to dvdr no problem at all, But when it comes to burning a data cd i have no joy at all, it gets to about 50% plus and just spits the dvd out! does this every time and ive tryed different software and media! Ive also noticed that the Write method box is greyed on the toshiba, no matter what program i use to try and burn the dvdr the write method box is just greyed out and i cannot change it from DAO.

Its strange though as it will backup[ a vcd/svcd to dvdr no problem when i used Ulead Dvd Moviefactory! but when i tryed to put a few games or apps on a dvdr it just gets passed the 50% mark and flips the dvd out (TOASTED) even the same with simulations round about teh same mark all the time and just spits the dvdr out!

Ive tryed everywere for answers and searched everywere for answers but i cannot find nothing on this and why this is happening! If anyone can shed some light for me, or even give me a solution of how it can be fixed, i`d be more than very greatful, or is they a fault with the drive?

All help very very much apreciated Guys/Girls Please help this is driving me nuts indeed!
