  1. when i put the video cd in my dvd player, it just reads no disc. the dat file is in the mpegav folder, and it is burned with nero 5.5. The dvd player is also compatible. do i need to do anything after converting from avi to mpg, or just burn it from there, because thats what i have been doing

  2. You burned the VCD using Neros VCD template/wizard then it should be ok. Are you sure you DVD can read VCDs or the CDR media you using. Trying making a music CD with the same media and seeing if you can read/play that.

    Some players are really picky about the media.

    It could be the brand of CDR you are using...
    I have a Sony DVD player and have found that most CDR/W brands work but very few CDR brands are sucessful. I've had 100% sucess rate with VIVASTAR branded CDRs (Cheap from ARGOS if you're in the UK)

    I also have a Sony which playes any, I also bought those Vivastar from Argos, but a few of them stopped working after a month. Bad batch perhaps, but now I use the Maxell from Argos, little bit more expensive, but better quality control.
