  1. okay, I've been researching the forums and 'how tos' and I haven't found an answer to this yet. I've just installed the ATI 'all in wonder' 8500DV card on my system. I know alot of people have had some bad luck with ATIs, but it seems to be working well for me, EXCEPT, that my PC doesn't recognize the firewire ports. One of the main reasons I bought the card was for DV capturing. When I go into my device manager, the ports just aren't there. NONE of my captureing software (and I'vegot just about everything) recognizes when the cam is hooked up. I know I'm doing everything right becaus I've done some marvelous, flawless, no frames dropped DV capturing on my laptop with a firewire card. For some reason though, I just can't get the PC to recognize the firewire ports. Any suggestions? Should I maybe mess around with the BIOS? I'm at a loss here and any help would be great. Oh, and all available drivers have been installed too. sooo.....?

    Hello

I can't offer any help otherthan this:

    http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/aiwradeon8500dv/index.html

This is a LINK to the ATI website with information on the AIW RADEON 8500DV and you will find on this webpage a LINK to the user guide, an installation tips, technical issues and an FAQ

My guess is you will find your answer there.
If you already went through this info and still couldn't find an answer then tell us and hopefully another ATI owner will know the answer.

  3. yeah, I've been down that road already, but thanks for the suggestion. Actually, you inspired me to take another look. I found one possible solution. Apparently there's an internal power hookup for the firewire ports. The faq said that it doesn't need to be connected for the ports to function, especially if using for DV transfer. BUT, I'm willing to try anything right now, so I guess it's time to open up that box again and take a look.
