  1. I haven't come across anything and have been using the 4X Ritek G04 for fast reliable burns but would use 2X media if I could find something for less then $2 per disc.

  2. I don't know what area you live in but in So. California the answer is YES
I pickup 25-pk GENERIC DVD-R at our local PC CLUB stores (www.pclub.com) they are currently running at $19.99 (0.80/ea) and if you read the inner ring and make sure they start with A2VK... then you have yourself a 2X SONY disc. I am also using a Pioneer A05. Happy hunting.
BTW- I'd refrain from ordering them online 'cause you can't read the inner ring until you get them. I've seem 2 other types of discs sold in the exact same "cake box", RITEK G03 and LEAD both burn only at 1X.

    Good Luck

  3. those a2vk's that are 'sony' are the ones giving me the read problems past 3.9 gigs...btw

check ur discs out with nero speed and then tell us how well they work

  4. if this can help. dvd2one's latest version allows you to specify how big you want the rip to be. So with crappy media you can specify less than 4gb.

  5. Thanks, boden11, for that info.
I will now go check the 4-5 DVD that I have burnt on these A2VK and see what I get!

BTW- there are 3 ways I can think to test with Nero CD Speed:
    1) Transfer rate (look for drops)
    2) Quality test (reports # c2 errors I believe)
    3) Surface scan

Which are you seeing errors with?

I buy their 'True 2x media' which is (IIRC) is ~$1.12/ea. These are actually TKD and work fine in my Pioneer DVR-105 (burn at 2x with DVD Decrypter).

Not anymore; they just jacked the prices up now that they are back in stock

The 25 packs are now $1.39/disc; they were $1.15/disc a few weeks ago.
The 100 packs are $1.21/disc; think they were $108 (maybe $105) a few weeks ago.

  8. They are NOT TDKs. They are Princos.

Your pioneer should burn these at 2X. I just ordered some 2 days ago...but apparentlly they sold out already. only .96 cents each.

I'm on my 3rd set 2x around $1.00 US ea., not 1 bad so far. Plus free shipping [ this is very nice added perk] they have always done me good. I also use their +R all good.
Leda a is little less but why, almost the same price as Ritek?

  12. Yeah they might works with the sonY drive at 2X but not the pioneer 105, maybe a new firmware one will easily fix that.

    An update:

The Ritek(GO3) DVD-R's (.96 cents) from the link above do burn at 2X on the Pioneer A04 with firmware version 1.31, I have just confirmed this.

WARNING UPDATE: ok, so the Ritek G03's, at least the ones from www.rima.com, dont work so good at 2x on the A04....freezing problems at about 80% through the movie. So I take back my endorsment

All A04 firware stuff can be found here:

    http://www.dvd-recordable.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=vie...titleA&show=10

I know Hardwired was originally asking about the A05, just wanted to let those know who have the A04.

  14. Mysterio1 you are right..... I just read that Pioneer removed 2x support for the Ritek G03's from the A05 firmware cause they were unstable.(as I found out )

  15. Also have to give my seal of approval to the "True 2x" from allmediaoutlet. Have burned a couple of DVD's with the 105 (Cendyne) using Nero and all have played on my standalone without a problem. Paid $35 for 25 and will be buying 100 more soon.

  16. I use Princo 2x with the code TDKG02, $1.05 a piece. They burn perfectly with Cendyne/Pioneer A05.

I got them at http://www.genesysdtp.com but now I'm finding out a few of the 2x princo's I did are starting to skip after watching the movie several times. So now I'm strictly using ritek's g03 and g04.

  19. You can get the hacked firmware that burns anything at 2x. I've used it with the Dup-EZs from Rima and they burn perfectly.

Yup. I'm using the 1.30 hack and I burn everything at 2x now. Accu has a problem burning at 2x if the data is over 4 GIGS, but Rytek does fine. Right now I'm using Optodisc unbranded in a DVD case ($1.12 each) and burned thru 50 in less thn a week, all at 2x, no problems. Just brought another 100!

I have burned approx. 40 or so disks of the Ritek (G03's) and most of those were at 2X with firmware hack and almost all have been perfect. I have had one that just stopped burning so that was killed with only 5mins. left in movie but that may not be media. Another one freezes near end. Works fine in other DVD players so again....not sure if it is media or not.
For the amount of time I save at 2X I don't mind getting a couple bad ones here and there.
