  1. Can anyone clarify the difference between 90 and 99 minute CD-Rs?

I see some disks advertised as 90 minute 'plus'
Others as '90 minute', and more at 'up to 99 minute'.

I have successfully used my CD drive to write 99 minutes, so I am confident that the drive will accept the media, but which to buy? Are all the disks the same but differ in the QA test?

Curiously, of those that choose to identify the capacity, all seem to suggest a capacity of 870 Mb, so as a postscript to this question, perhaps someone can tell me what file size settings I should use in TMPGenc.

    Thanks to all in advance

  3. Before I bought a DVD-r drive I made many XVCD. VCDEasy was the program that I could get the most on a disc with. 80 min cdr - approx 830 mb, 90 min cdr - 930 mb, 99 min cdr 1008 mb, all noncompliant vcd format. I threw many discs in the garbage because they would stop playing at about 88 and a half minutes in my 2 Pioneer players, 308 3 disc and 603 5 disc. I tried one in my daughters GE1101P and it played just fine right to 98 min so it was the player not the discs. Yes I did go buy a GE, maybe not Pioneer playback quality but way better than Apex and it plays everything. ................ harrymj3

  4. 90min data(mode 1)=800MB,90min audio/video(mode 2)=880MB
    99min data(mode 1)=870MB,99min audio/video(mode 2)=950MB
I use Ritek 90/99min CD-R and they are rated at 24x but will burn at 48x with no errors. 8)

I had the same depressing scenario of harrymj3 - PC DVD-Rom recognised all 99 minutes of video/audio, but my Pioneer DVD Player would only play up close to 90 minutes. My el-cheapo car stereo, however, plays the full 99 minutes, so at least I can use them there.
