  1. I posted this in another thread (RE: DVD Shrink) because it's the most annoying problem I have with this software. I bought InstantCopy as part of the complete package deal @ CompUSA a while back, anyway.. updated to the latest updater; using the tools (PDI tools as well as the Registry editing tool MrBass links) and still have this very annoying problem:

Discs look BEAUTIFUL. They play FANTASTIC. UNTIL.. you get to about 15-20 minutes left in a 2 hour film, and then you get serious "skipping" issues; it's as though the movie goes on hyper fast forward, with a few clips here and there, broken audio, and the last 15 minutes or so is compressed to about 3 minutes in length.

    This has occurred now with:

    Chasing Amy
    The Bourne Identity
    Blues Clues Movie
    Formula 51
    Star Trek IV

Basically, more then 1/2 the discs I've tried to copy. It's very misleading; if you were to watch the first 40-50 minutes of a film, you'd think InstantCopy yielded far superior results to anything else as far as quality.. BUT.. even though DVDShrink has lesser quality (though not as bad as I had thought based on reviews, looks fine on my Sony 53" HDTV) it is at least yielding copies without this glitch.. and in a lot less time. On my P4 2.8G it takes 2 1/2 hours on a movie with Instant Copy, less then 1/4 that with DVDShrink

  2. I've done the bourne identity with instant copy and have no playback issues. What kind of media do you use?

For another 2 cents on this subject, I am of the opinion that this may not be a problem on the part of InstantCopy, but the player itself.

I noticed the same problem (for me) when I played back a DVD+R on my downstairs entertainment center. That Sony DVD player is several years old and is not known for any degree of compatibility for either DVD-R or +R's. I have two other standalone DVD players in other rooms. One was a gift at Christmas (Philips, I think) and a KLH from almost a year ago.

None of these machines are advertised at capable of dealing with -R or +R discs. Oddly enough, my brief testing showed that all of these play +R and not -R's. They do state they will play DVD/VCD/MP3 discs.

The same +R discs that skip in the downstairs Sony machine does NOT skip in the KLH.

So my sense of this - the recording is ok, but the degree of compatibility of a player is what is going on here.

For what that's worth to you.
Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)

  4. I think its the media. If its 2x princos that for sure is the problem. They had a big problem on their first batch. I couldn't return mine. Still have about 20 they sometimes work and don't work. Pain in the ass. Most of the time there are errors.

  5. Hmm. Using 1X Princos. So far, I've burned these exact same media with Nero / DVD Shrink and have not been able to replicate the problem; the player I have is a new, new player I just purchased because it specifically advertised DVD-R support...

I just ordered in two spindles of Ritek 4X media, we'll see.

  6. I started out with 1X Princo and i'd say one out of every ten had playback issues. Switched to Ritek and 0 coasters out of over 250 burned. It's probably your media.
