  1. Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong forum, i couldn't find a more appropriate one than this.

Ok, i have a sony dru500ax which seems to burn dvds fine but has problems when it comes to burning cds. Every cd i try to burn with Nero gets to about 5% done and then stops, the drive buffer is empty and the drive repeatedly spins up and then stops every few seconds. Sometimes after about a minute it starts burning the disc and everything is fine but sometimes it gets stuck on 5% and after about 5 minutes reports a queuing error and stops completely and the disc is a coaster. Has anyone else experienced these problems? I have tried different versions of nero and the bundled RecordNow software and the same thing happens so i believe the problem is with the
    drive itself.
    Any suggestions people?

    Ben

  3. I have had a DRU500A since late last year. I installed it in an external firewire case, and have been using it on my XP machine since. When I first got it, their were a number of issues with the drive... A lot of media was incompatible, and it just didn't work well for me. I then upgraded the firmware to f, and it fixed all my problems... Now I can burn just about all media (even the Princo's I bought before I realized they were crap). The first thing I would do is check firmware... some people have had more luck with earlier firmwares than some of the later 2 series... Personally, 1.0f has worked best for me.

If firmware revisions don't work, then you should send the drive in for service or return it and get another one.

I should note, however, that this is the second dru500a I have had... The first one worked for a week, and then the "magic" smoke came out.
