, beware of some Firmware on other sites as some are HACKed firmware, but they usually post clearly which are official and which are hacked.

www.firmware-flash.com has access to all firmware, from official ones to hacked ones.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

If you want to play it safe the the latest offical firmware is likely your best route. However if you dont mind voiding your warranty. (only voided if you can't get the old firmware flashed back on before sending it in for repairs mind you.) You can try the hacked firmware, its very nice I hear some people getting upto 9x rips with it which is nice even though my Liteon DVDrom goes much faster. Also the ability to attempt to burn any disk at 2x is great. Just remember if the media isn't that great of quality to begin with it will not likely burn at 2x very reliably.

I think some people on firmware forum have been keeping up with which disk do burn ok if I remember correctly.

I guess what I'm saying is do what you will, just be aware of the potential risk reguardless of how slight they may be.
