  1. There's already a copy (CD image) of Pinnacle's InstantCopy floating around on the web.

I wonder how many of the people that use programs such as CCE, Scenarist, etc actually pay for them? I've seen full versions of both of them on the web as well.

ScenalyzerLive is still the best $33 I've ever paid for a program!

it depends on how you view the situation. in the example of CCE, i cannot not afford the $2500 asking price, under no circumstances would i ever buy CCE. so even if i use a pirate copy, i'm not depriving them of anything, as i would never buy their software. however, if i were to use pirate software, and reccomend it to someone who -could- afford it, they're $2500 better off. and using the full pirate version may impress me so much that i buy the limited version, so that i have contributed what i can for them to continue development. but don't think they make their money from casual users, they make it from huge multi user contracts. if someone like, say, 20th century Fox decide they need 500 new encoding rigs for their DVD operation, then they could buy the hardware CCE systems. or companies like pioneer bundle the cut down versions of CCE with their DVD burners, and they sell a -lot- of burners.

True in form, but something like CCE is not used in the pro industry. 20th Century Fox would never get it. They depend on cable companies and the like... small operations.

Piracy is wrong, but the argument of "I'd never buy it" are valid, at least in the common sense arena. I don't sympathize with DVD pirates, but those software companies... $K for a single program... come on. Not everybody has a business.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Hmmm... my two cents worth is this..

What moran WOULD use CCE at that $2,500 ( remember when it was a laughing $4000 ?? )
And mind you, if they can change that price tag that drastically over
night, you gotta be wondering how come, and what made them change
such a high price by almost half, when you look at Wal-mart, only dropping
by a few dollars. You GOTTA be wondering. In short, they obviously
must be realizing that THAT price is HIGH!! Even it's current price is high.
But, then again, you gotta concider that catagory or class they are in, in
    the professional class
And, remember their Lite versoin he he.. thats $1,400 - a strip-down ver.
w/ barely half of TMPG's features
I certainly would NOT buy it !! As for the pir version, even if there are
any floating around (and I don't care if anyone has it)
I wouldn't use it regulary, as TMPGEnc (IMO) is THE way to go - bar none!!

Even IF cce WERE better in quality (to the point that you COULD noticed it
w/out squenting mind you) I still wouldn't buy it at THAT price tag. IMHO, and
I said honest, TMPGEnc is just as good. About the only differece is with
performance. CCE is only maginally faster, but I woudn't go out and buy
it JUST for that. CCE would REALLY have to be top-notch in quality. It
would HAVE.., no, make that MUST and ALWAYS out-perform ANY software encoder
out there.. heck, even to out-perform an average MPEG-2 hardware set as well.
For that price tag, it darn well better be an out-performer than any other
software MPEG encoder out there. But, if TMPG is proving me (IMO) just as
good in quality, then CCE has problems, AND, that "laughing" price tag SHOULD
    be lowered - bar none!!

Not that, but CCE would have to come up with LOTS of other goodies, like
perfect IVTC, perfect de-Intercer, perfect filtering, and a whole host of
other goodies. What I mean in "perfect" IVTC is this, as long as your source
materials are not tainted or an incorrectly performed Telecined process.
An example is Star Trek - TNG ( you can see them every day on "the NEW TNN" )
You gotta see how bad they Telecine it. Every so many frames are mixed with
an telecined (Interlaced that is) (but NOT to get confused w/ Telecined frames)
But, even then, for THAT price tag, it better handle these too, and w/ perfect
smoothness. ( peronally, though, I think they perfect it this way for a reason )

Sorry if this veared off topic for a moment.

Well, my comment was basically about the laughing price tag and the lack
of features AND quality from such a high price $,$$$.$$
I'll be sticking w/ TMPGEnc, bar none!!

Have a good day all 8)
