  1. Hey all,

i have basically just started capturing, and im having some problems with a noise source. I have the AIW 7500, and capture from analog cable. I have search this forum and dvdrhelp, doom9, but i can't really find anything usefull. Ive tried alot of noise filters different combos but nothing seems to produce anything even close to the capture. I capture using picvideo at 19 then framserver with virtualdub to tmpg, the quality with the smoother and 2dcleaner is moderate. Im just looking for sugestions of filter combo's and settings. right now my exact combonations it deinterlace area based, smother at 7 (with noise reduction checked), then 2d cleaner at default, then resize bicubic .60. i resize from 640X480 to 480X480. this takes me like 7 hours to encode. the output is to blurry for my tastes but if i try to fix that it gets really pixilated, like the whole picture becomes big blocks. somthing that is normally seen during high motion or somthing.

well anyone that can give me filter combinations that will produce a sharp picture that has or doesn't have alot of noise or artifacts, and that doesnt get macro blocks or pixilated would be very appreciated. thanks in advance. laterz.

Have you tried VirtualDub's realtime noise reduction, that reduces noise as the video is being captured? In capture mode go to Video >> Noise Reduction, set the threshold, then go to Video >> Noise Reduction >> enable to enable. I always go back one more time to make sure "enable" got checked. I usually leave the threshold at it's default for noisy images and decrease it for lightly noisy images.

It doesn't really sound like you are complaining about "fast-motion macroblocks" my general solution to that is 2-Pass VBR and with a higher maximum bitrate. This in turn usually makes XSVCDs. 2-Pass VBR also takes approximately twice as long to encode.

Read the guide in my signature. It shows how to make DVD from VHS/tv sources, and includes info on noise reduction.

The new ATI MMC 8.1 (free download ati.com) has active on-the-fly noise reduction filters too. I didn't like them for my purposes, but others have.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
