    Hi all,
    I have a pioneer dvdA05 (p4 2.4ghz, 512Mo, winxp,etc...)
I did the firmware upgrade to the last version yesterday
Since then, all software seems to detect my drive as a 4x writer (recordnow, prassi, ic7) but when they start to burn they burn a 1x ???(it takes 1:07 to burn a dvd wich is the time it takes for a 1x) I took the same media and tested it in another writer I borrowed and it worked fine (a least at 2x)...
    Anybody got an idea ?
Burnin and ripping got so slow it now takes forever to make my compilations ;-(

Sorry if this is a n00b question...

If you are using Ritek discs you can load the firmware hack and go at 2X. But it sounds like it is cheap media which never paid royalties to Pioneer for the higher burn speeds.

Royalties have VERY LITTLE to do with discs burning 2x or 4x. Everybody would love to be certified. It's not that expensive. Fact is, many of these companies are rejected for crappy media.

It's about disc balance mostly. If it will not stay balanced at 2x or 4x, then it will be bad. Some firmwares can force higher speeds, but results are not always that great.

www.firmware-flash.com has all your answers on firmware.

Disc stability is one factor for sure but I am positive that royalities also have alot to do with it. It is easy for them to make the firmware recognize certain discs and not allow them to work at higher speeds or work at all. This is from personal experience.....where media worked at lower firware and later learned that the company did not want to pay royalites for the -R format.
As for downgrading your firmware it is easy just do a search or go to doom9.org and they just recently published info on the A05.
