I have tried to copy DVD film backups without success using Nero. Does DVD X Copy do this simply and is there a simple way using Nero?

  2. Hi brendanc,

Is the original movie on a DVD5 or a DVD9 disc?

If it's a DVD5 disc you could simply use DVDDecrypter to rip the entire DVD to your harddisk and then burn it with Nero.

If it's a DVD9 disc you could either use DVDDecrypter to rip the movie and DVD2One for instance to strip extra features and convert it so it would fit on one DVDR OR you could use DVDXCopy to span the movie over 2 DVDR's so all the extra's and video quality gets preserved.

    Regards,

well am prosuming bein a "backup" its got to be on a normal 4.7gb disc hasn't it, as you can't but dual layer discs, so its oviously already been through the process of dvd2one or sumthing simular when it was made a backup if it was a dvd9 disc, so really it should just copy i;d think using the dvd-copy feature in nero

Nero rejects the dvd that I am copying to saying there is not enough space on disc to copy to

  6. Are you trying to copy "on the fly" ?

For some reason, discs seem to... grow... if you do that sometimes.

If you're trying to copy a DVD-R, it's already free from CSS, so you could either just copy the files from the disc to your hard drive and burn those with your burning program from there, or if you have two drives, load them into your project (usually by dragging and dropping the contents of your VIDEO_TS folder) by having the "original" in your reader and putting a blank in the writer.

Alternatively, I have seen this with Nero, and you can get around it by doing a disc copy by using the writer to read the disc and writing, by creating an image in between.

But for some reason, on the fly projects just seem to groooowww...

  7. What version of Nero are you using? Does Nero start copying the DVD and then stop about 2/3 of the way through, or does it reject the disc before it starts copying?

...or how about just copying the VIDEO_TS folder from the dvd-r to your hard drive, and creating another dvd-r?
Would be quicker than creating a disk image that's for sure and you wouldn't have any 'on the fly' crap with Nero (which I ditched an age ago, in favour of RecordNow Max!)

But is it possible to create a copy from a backup on the fly? Has anybody tried it with success, or do you still have to rip it?

  10. My experience is that it's better to rip it.

I just use DVDDecryptor in ISO mode, and burn with Alcohol.
