How much better quality VCDs(for my brother) and SVCDs(for me) would I get converting DVDs step by step with the various programs available as opposed to using these all-in-one type programs? These two seem to work well for me (I'm using CCE 2.5 with DVD2SVCD) but I still wonder whether the extra work of a step by step manual conversion is worth the trouble. Thanks.

  2. DVD2SVCD uses the same programs you would step by step, just runs them for you. I normally edit the AVISynth file prior to running CCE to fix it 'the way I like it.'

Basically DVD2SVCD is easier. What mostly effects quaility is the settings used in the encoder. If the settings are the same quaility will be the same.

  3. dvd2svcd is a bunch of programs controlled by dvd2svcd. I find programs like dvdx which is an all in one produces poor results compared to separate programs. I use smartripper with dvd2avi and tmpgenc to make svcd's and vcd's. I also use dvd2svcd with CCE and it produces same results but at twice the speed. Now, the only reason I still use the slower way is that I do not have a widescreen tv and I like to take widescreen dvd and convert them to amaphoric or amaphoric to full screen without stretching the picture. Dvd2svcd and cce does not have that option. see what i mean at http://entiendo.gotnet.net/

Still can't beat the ol' human tweaking, the all in one solutions are quick and easy but are no match for what you can do yourself..

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
