  1. Hi,

Is it possible to export MOV files to basic mpeg file with QT ? The only related export option (Movie to Toast VCD) doesn't work when the resulting file doesn't fit on a VCD.

What i would to do is getting a mpeg file in order to eventually split it and edit it via VCD Builder.

Did i miss to install some Codec ? If so is there some URL from which i could download them ?

    Thanks in advance,

It doesn't fit? Have you tried dragging your movie into the Toast Application with the VCD option selected? It should convert the file and have it ready to burn when it completes.

Toast and the Toast Export to VCD component will not convert files longer than 74 minutes. You have to section off your QT movie (or DV or whatever) into 74 minute (or less) sections (to save space, save using dependencies) in order for the Toast export to work.

Oh, that's what he was saying. I read that message totally wrong. I usually cut a movie in half so that both sections will fit on the cd's.

Yes... Did you mean there's no way (except Toast Export) to convert to VCD with QT ?

If so, that's odd... I'gonna give ffmepgx a second chance..

BTW: why this 74 mn limit as i can burn 78 mn CD-R ?

It seems the Toast VCD export component was designed to strictly comply with the VCD standard, which only allows for 74 minute media. Even though 80 minute and longer blank media are available, they are considered "nonstandard" media.

The thing about being able to chunk off your own bits in Quicktime is you can ensure you're not breaking up your movie in the middle of dialogue. In the split functions of ffmpegX gui, the split is determined by file size only.

The only MPEG format Quicktime itself will export to is MPEG-2, and thats only if you've installed the MPEG encoder that comes with DVD Studio Pro.
